Horsemanship Lessons

Cran-Hill Ranch is excited to provide the opportunity for children and adults to participate in the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) program. CHA is a nationally and internationally recognized program, emphasizing lessons that are safe, effective, and fun.

Riders have the opportunity to become certified in three levels, English or Western. Skills learned in one level flow into and are improved in the next.

All horse related activities are supervised by a CHA instructor, who will make sure your horse experience is safe, educational and fun.

Basic Horsemanship Lessons

Requirements for all levels:

Riders must be 10 years old or older. Those younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Riders must wear a riding helmet, (provided at no extra charge) long pants, and closed toed shoes with a hard sole.
Riders must sign a waiver and complete a written horsemanship survey to determine your level. Our desire is to help you accomplish your horsemanship goals and set you up for success.

All levels will focus on these three aspects of Horsemanship:
1. Ground Work (horse handling)
2. Riding (arena and trail)
3. Theory

Level Descriptions
All lessons include instruction in grooming adn saddling, horse handling, and arena lessons according to riding level.

Level 1
Grooming and saddling, leading, basic position and patterns, parts of the horse and tack, games, walk and trot.

Level 2
Better communication with horse, improve position consistency in walk/trot/canter, breeds colors and markings.

Level 3
Focus on refining aids, advanced patterns, increased speeds, more challenging horses, horse care and management.

In the event of rain/inclement weather/cancellation of lesson by Cran-Hill Ranch, an alternate day will be scheduled. No refunds will be given for a missed lesson.
